Hotel Emblem San Francisco

The Emblem Hotel in San Francisco is a cozy, well-located boutique hotel — stylish, comfortable, and within walking distance of almost everything in the city. The lobby is warm and welcoming, a great place to relax after exploring downtown. BUT! They seriously need to change the awful smell in the hallways and common areas. It’s this strong, cheap air-freshener scent — like a bathroom spray — and it completely ruins the otherwise pleasant atmosphere. If they fix that one issue, this hotel would easily be a 5/5. Everything else — location, comfort, and vibe — is really nice.

My husband came for a business trip, and I decided to tag along! This hotel is interestingly niche and really fun. Each staff I encountered were extremely friendly. We had an issue with our previous room's AC, and they were immediately friendly in accommodating to shifting us rooms.

5 stars for what we needed and were provided. We stayed here through "day break hotels" as our flight left at 10pm - we checked in at 12 and out at 7pm. The location just around from Union Square was great for the last minute shopping my wife did. The rooms were cosey, but there was a bath which was awesome. Well stocked fridge and water for sale at what you would expect priced. The bed was super comfy and the atmosphere was super hygge. We didn't eat or drink here but there was a cafe attached and happy hour 4-5pm (I think)

We spent 5 weeks travelling across Canada and USA and stayed in 12 different accommodations. Hotel Emblem had the best reception staff. It wasn't just one person, we dealt with four during our stay and all were fabulous. Great team! The cafe was great and location handy for public transport. Had great food in restaurants around. The Italian restaurant had fabulous taste. The Akiro sushi place was neat watching it being made to order. Across the road is a comedy club, had a great night at the improv session.

From the moment I arrived, the staff made me feel genuinely welcomed, warm, attentive, and incredibly helpful. The hotel has a vibrant, literary-inspired atmosphere that feels both stylish and cozy, with thoughtful details throughout that make the experience feel elevated without being pretentious. My room was spotless, comfortable, and surprisingly quiet for being so close to Union Square. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and I loved the eclectic touches that give the hotel its unique personality. The lobby and lounge areas are perfect for working, reading, or grabbing a drink; the energy is creative and relaxed. Location-wise, you can’t beat it walking distance to great restaurants, shopping, and transportation. The great cafe and bar on the ground-floor is also gold. Recommend the smoothies and the seasonal drinks specials. What stood out most, though, was the service. Everyone I interacted with went above and beyond to make sure I had everything I needed. It’s rare to find a hotel that feels both boutique and genuinely hospitable, but Hotel Emblem gets it right. I would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting San Francisco whether for business, creativity, or a weekend escape. Also the IG-ready lobby area with walls of books makes my inner bibliophile very happy. The full wall digital fireplace and comfortable seating with active WiFi made it an easy place for me to meet with clients during my stay as well. Very well designed with intentional considerations of the guest experience and potential uses.

Even before stepping foot inside, Hotel Emblem has already made a fantastic impression on me thanks to their exceptional customer service. I recently booked a weeklong stay several weeks in advance but never received a confirmation email. Since I hadn’t stayed here before and couldn’t remember the hotel name, I searched my inbox (and spam) using every keyword I could think of — nothing came up. Assuming the reservation hadn’t gone through, I made alternate plans. It wasn’t until I unexpectedly received a confirmation email much later that I realized the booking had existed, which prompted me to reach out. Huge shout-out to Mandy at the front desk/reservations line for being incredibly gracious, patient, and helpful. Despite the timing falling outside the standard 72-hour cancellation window, she took the time to understand the situation, acknowledged the tech glitch with the delayed confirmation, and helped resolve the issue with kindness and professionalism. It was such a relief; being double-booked for a weeklong stay is stressful, and her empathy made all the difference. Based on this experience alone, I’m genuinely looking forward to making Hotel Emblem my destination on my next visit to San Francisco. If the in-person experience matches the level of care I received over the phone, I have no doubt it will be a great stay.

I stayed here for the Portola Music Fest weekend. The staff were great. They were professional and accommodating. The small but mighty surprise was the amenities, of which we used the essential oil diffuser and the starry night light. The stay was comfy and compact. Don't expect a huge room but it served my group well. I am usually particular about the bathroom cleanliness and Hotel Emblem exceeded my expectations.

They not only found my card quickly, but mailed it back to me securely. That kind of honesty and follow-through is rare and deeply appreciated. The rooms were spotless, the location unbeatable, and the vibe—creative, welcoming, and just the right touch of luxe. Whether you're traveling for business or pleasure, Hotel Emblem delivers an experience that’s both memorable and meaningful. Highly recommend. I’ll definitely be back!
